The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is a national non-profit dedicated to serving individuals with Muscular Dystrophy diseases.
The Utah chapter of MDA hosts an annual Summer Camp each August (see dates). MDA Summer Camp is divided into two separate, overnight sessions for children ages 6-12 and youth ages 13-17. Camp is held at Camp Kostolopus in Emigration Canyon near Salt Lake City, Utah.
Each camper with Muscular Dystrophy is paired with a volunteer for the length of the camp. The camper and volunteer will then participate together in various activities throughout the week, eat together, and sleep near each other in cabins.
"Camp is my favorite thing in my whole life! Catching a fish for the first time was so cool and I got to build a rocket that we blasted off into the sky! Plus, my camp counselor was my very best friend!"
- Camper
"I've volunteered at Camp for three summers and it has become one of my favorite weeks of the year. The campers have taught me patience, how to put someone else's needs above my own, and how to have fun. There is something special about Summer Camp!"
